Flyway Fowling hunts take place in southwest Wisconsin on the Mississippi River “the big river” near Ferryville, Wisconsin on Pool 9. Pool 9 is part of the Lake Winneshiek area and the surrounding sloughs. The area offers spectacular scenery of the beautiful river bluffs.

Lake Winneshiek is part of the upper Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Refuge. The refuge is the major migration route for waterfowl and other birds. At times up to seventy five percent of the continental CANVASBACK population (more than 300,000) may be using the area. Other diving ducks such as bluebills, ringnecks, redheads, buffleheads, and goldeneye regularly frequent the area.

In addition, the shallow backwaters attract mallards, wood ducks, wigeon, teal, gadwalls, and Canada geese, as well, many other surface feeding wildlife. It is the favorite resting area for thousands of tundra swans each year, plus you can usually see several majestic bald eagles on any given day.

Services Provided

Hunts are conducted from a roomy 20 foot custom designed duck boat. It is equipped with heaters, comfortable seating, and mounted gun rests for safety. The latest waterfowl techniques are used along with up to 150+ magnum decoys. A piping hot breakfast (referred to by clients as "The Big Breakfast") is served on the boat along with coffee and other beverages. Various snacks are also provided. Generally all hunts will end early to mid afternoons daily (guide discretion).

Equipment to Bring

Due to the excessive equipment needed to hunt the big water, please plan to limit your gear to approximately 30 pounds (ideally one gun and one blind bag). You may want to bring a camera and binoculars.

Licenses Required

You will need the following licenses:

	Wisconsin Small Game
	Wisconsin Waterfowl Stamp
	Federal Migratory Bird stamp
	Canada Goose Exterior Zone Permit (optional)

Licenses can be purchased online from the Wisconsin DNR

Guide Fees

	$600 per day for 1-3 hunters ($800 per day for 4 hunters).
	A non-refundable down payment of 50% is required at time of booking.
